Berkeley Orphan Home

Where Lost Dreams Find Light Again

There are children in this world who never chose their struggle — young girls who lost their parents but not their hope. They wake up longing not for luxury, but for love, care, and a chance to belong.

The Berkeley Orphan Home, founded by Musa Mahmood Shaikh and led by Azra Musa Mahmood Shaikh, under the blessings and patronage of H.E. Aarefa Al Falahi, stands as a symbol of compassion, education, and empowerment.

What began as one man’s heartfelt idea — to create a safe haven for orphaned girls — has now grown into a movement of hope. People saw the sincerity behind the vision and began to join hands, turning a dream into a home, and that home into a legacy of learning, leadership, and love.

To build a generation of educated, morally strong, and globally capable orphan girls — fluent in Arabic and English, grounded in Islamic values, and empowered with modern knowledge to become high-quality human resources and leaders of tomorrow.

Our mission is to nurture orphaned children — especially young girls — with complete care, faith, and future-readiness. We aim to:

  • Provide safe housing, nutrition, and a family-like environment built on love and dignity.
  • Deliver education combining Quranic learning, Arabic, and English fluency with modern sciences.
  • Foster mental and emotional healing through mentorship, compassion, and support.
  • Equip children with leadership and entrepreneurial skills for lifelong independence.
  • Develop spiritually enlightened and intellectually confident individuals who serve humanity.
  • Residential Care: Safe and comfortable housing with family-style living.
  • Academic Curriculum: British-standard education combined with Quran memorisation and Arabic learning.
  • Language Development: Mastery of both Arabic and English to strengthen identity and opportunity.
  • Healthcare & Nutrition: Complete physical and mental health programs.
  • Skills and Leadership Development: Training in technology, crafts, and entrepreneurship.
  • Mentorship & Emotional Support: Personal guidance by educators, mentors, and scholars.
      • Establish the Berkeley Leadership Academy for Orphan Girls.
      • Build Arabic–English language labs for dual fluency.
      • Create sustainable income-generating initiatives to ensure financial self-reliance.
      • Launch a university scholarship fund for orphan girls to pursue higher education globally.
      • Develop a Women’s Entrepreneurship and Innovation Centre for graduates of the home.
It began with a question — “If no one helps them, who will?”
From that moment, the idea of a dedicated home for orphaned girls took root in the heart of Musa Mahmood Shaikh. The mission was never about charity; it was about creating leaders out of lost potential.
Through the Berkeley Orphan Home, we wanted to replace tears with confidence, helplessness with education, and despair with faith.
Today, by the grace of Allah, this initiative stands as a living example of how compassion, when guided by vision and community, can transform lives.
We believe that orphans are not forgotten souls — they are chosen souls. Each one carries a story that deserves to be rewritten with hope.
At Berkeley Orphan Home, we don’t see charity as giving; we see it as sharing the duty of care entrusted to us by Allah.
By teaching Arabic, the language of faith, and English, the language of the world, we bridge the spiritual and the practical.
Every girl who learns here grows into a confident communicator, a believer, and a professional — ready to contribute to society with excellence and ethics.

Message from the Founder

“This home began as a dream in my heart — a place where orphan girls could find love, learning, and leadership. I wanted to build something that doesn’t just feed them for a day but empowers them for a lifetime. When people began to see that sincerity, they joined, and this dream grew into a community of compassion.
Every girl who studies here — learning Arabic, English, and faith — is a future leader in the making.
I believe when we invest in these children, we are investing in the soul of humanity.”
— Musa Mahmood Shaikh, Founder

Message from H.E. Aarefa Al Falahi

“Supporting projects like the Berkeley Orphan Home is not only an act of charity but an act of faith in humanity. I am proud to stand beside Azra Musa Mahmood Shaikh and the entire team who are turning this vision into reality.
From the United Arab Emirates, I extend my blessings and full support to this noble initiative in Pakistan, a nation rich in potential and compassion.
Every orphaned child deserves the chance to learn, to dream, and to lead — and this project beautifully combines Islamic values with modern education to make that possible.
I believe this home will produce a generation of young women who carry wisdom in their hearts, confidence in their minds, and light in their souls — a true reflection of what faith and education can achieve together.”
— H.E. Aarefa Al Falahi
